Three H&R Block- Kona riders took to the track last weekend to contest the Alberta Provincial Track Championships. The result was a lot of new hardware.
Chris McNeil raced the track for the very first time over the weekend and with some hard fought racing took home the silver medal in the endurance omnium. He collected points in all three endurance events with 2nd in the Pursuit, 4th in the scratch race and a great win in the points race. He also collected a few points in the sprint event with a 4th place in the kilo. Look for Chris to race the track a lot more next summer and improve on his all ready impressive pursuit.
Dustin Andrews raced as his final preparation before leaving for the Canada Summer Games at the end of this week. Having only raced a few weeknight track races this year Dustin is also a bit of a track rookie. His races were remarkably consistent with a 4th in the pursuit, 5th in the scratch and 3rd in the points race. Both bunch races he was very aggressive, forcing the race and thinning out the field for his teammates.
Mark MacDonald returned to the track as defending Provincial Champion. Fresh off racing at the Pan American Championships in Mexico City he was eager to defend the title. Using his track experience he placed 3rd in the pursuit, 1st in the scratch and 2nd in the points. Good enough to hold on for another provincial jersey.
Next up for the track racers is the National Championships in Burnaby at the end of the month. Check back for reports on how the racing plays out.
