Mt. Hood stage race was epic event this year that was comprised of 5 stages.
The Tour started well with a 3 top 10 places in the opening Prologue, with Cam 5th, Zack 7th and Garrett 8th.
The next day was a hilly Road Race that saw a split of about 30 riders make it over the final climb going into the finish. We had our two GC guys, Sebastian and Garrett in this with Zack right behind in the next group of about 10.
On the 3rd stage "race of truth" Sebastian came 10th, Cam 12th, Garrett 14th and this lead to Sebastian moving up in GC to 5th and Garrett to 7th. The next stage was the down town Crit that saw one rider get away with the remaining riders finishing as a pack.
The final stage was an epic road race course that was going to change everything on GC. With that the Team worked to make sure that Sebastian and Garrett received everything they required for the stage to see what they could do. The Team delivered by getting them to where they needed to into the final climb. With that Sebastian rode a great race with a 2nd place finish. Garrett was not far behind and with these two results it put Garrett in 4th on GC and Sebastian in 2nd!
What a great way to end the Tour. Team H&R BLOCK was the best amateur team in the race (Yahoo Pro Cycling won the overall GC). BUT, had there been a Young rider, U23 GC (as there normally always is), Garrett would have won this.
As this race is a premier event in the U.S. the team received some great press - Click here to see Velonews for more on this race.
